چکیده

The volcanic ash plumes over Europe created by the eruptions of the Eyjafjallajkull in Iceland 2010 and the underwater oil plumes caused by the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico are two examples of dynamic environmental phenomena that are challenging to measure and delineate. Threedimensional ash and oil concentrations are highly dynamic, invisible phenomena, and there is little sensing infrastructure available in place. The same applies to the dispersion of gas or particles in the air after some emission in an accident. In particularly in those cases where the affected area is not accessible by humans, the obvious solution is to send one or more unmanned mobile vehicles equipped with sensors to autonomously perform a surveillance task. Such a mobile sensor can follow a preprogrammed route to take measurements in a regular sampling grid. However, highly dynamic phenomena and time critical monitoring scenarios as for example in emergency response show the need for more efficient, adaptive movement strategies of sensors. This PhD proposal describes research elaborating on mobile in-situ sensor movement strategies for use in environmental exploration and monitoring. The vision is an intelligent mobile sensor that autonomously plans and performs environmental observations by real-time processing of the measured data. The focus of this research is on the observation of atmospheric dispersion processes, as they occur for example in pollution incidents.

Adaptive Path Planning for Randomly Deployed Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we propose an adaptive path planning scheme considering the length of movement path and number of beacon messages of a mobile beacon for its energy efficiency, where the sensor nodes are randomly deployed. Contrary to the previous studies that utilize mobile beacons (nodes sending beacon messages) only on the basis of a random movement method or predefined static movement paths, ...

Investigating Adaptive Behaviors in Urban Spaces in Relation to the Dialectical Concepts of Isolation and Congestion

The presence of people in urban spaces and related components is one of the most important issues in the field of behavioral sciences in urban studies. The mechanism of static presence in urban spaces is influenced by factors that generally determine the quality of social life in these spaces. The present study examines the way people are present in urban spaces in relation to each other, and i...

Energy-Saving in Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Optimization Sink Movement Control

A sensor network is made up of a large number of sensors with limited energy. Sensors collect environmental data then send them to the sink. Energy efficiency and thereby increasing the lifetime of sensor networks is important. Direct transfer of the data from each node to the central station will increase energy consumption. Previous research has shown that the organization of nodes in cluster...

A multiple criteria algorithm for planning the itinerary of mobile sink in wireless sensor networks

The mobile sink can increase the efficiency of wireless sensor networks. It moves in a monitored environment and collects the network nodes information. Thus, by the sink we can balance the power consumption and increases the network lifetime. Determining path of the sink's movement is usually modeled as an optimization problem where finding optimal solutions require collecting value of all the...

Target Tracking with Unknown Maneuvers Using Adaptive Parameter Estimation in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract- Tracking a target which is sensed by a collection of randomly deployed, limited-capacity, and short-ranged sensors is a tricky problem and, yet applicable to the empirical world. In this paper, this challenge has been addressed a by introducing a nested algorithm to track a maneuvering target entering the sensor field. In the proposed nested algorithm, different modules are to fulfill...
